According to the latest AdEase report, IKEA topped the list of most active radio advertisers for the week of April 14 to 20 with an ad about the comfort of its mattresses.

The advertiser dominated the airwaves with 6,618 combined occurrences, claiming the top spot in Toronto, second place in Calgary, and third in Edmonton, while ranking eighth in Montreal and ninth in Vancouver – a significant leap from being absent from the previous week’s radio shopping ranking.

The surge comes as no surprise, given the retailer’s active promotional efforts to highlight its mattresses this year. The company recently launched a targeted campaign on Instagram, sending late-night Canadians direct messages offering a free mattress.

Toyota Dealers surged to second place with 6,151 total occurrences, after not ranking the previous week. Telus also climbed the AdEase ranks with 6,036 occurrences, followed closely by Novo Nordisk (5,609 occurrences) and Elections Canada (5,497 occurrences). Both advertisers recorde more occurrences than last week.

On the category side, grocery stores and supermarkets ranked high in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Edmonton. Furniture stores were popular in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Edmonton, driven largely by IKEA’s advertising efforts. Automotive-related categories also performed well, with general automotive imports leading in Toronto and Ottawa, and automotive repair services prominent in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. Additionally, tire services stood out in Toronto and Quebec.

Finally, QSRs were consistent in Edmonton, Vancouver and Ottawa, with major brands like McDonald’s and Arby’s driving the category.
