TV soccer ratings continued to grow on Saturday night as a record number of viewers tuned in to see what turned out to be Canada’s final game in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
In all, an average audience of 3.2 million Canadians watched the game on CTV and RDS, which saw Canada fall to England, 2-1.
Audience numbers for the game peaked at an average audience of 4.2 million viewers in the second half, as Canada made a final push to even the score. Overall 7.5 million Canadians tuned in to watch some part of the game. All numbers are from Numeris, provided by Bell Media.
The game ranks as the second-highest recorded audience ever for Canadian women’s soccer, falling just behind the average audience of 3.7 million that tuned in to watch the 2012 London Olympic Games semifinal.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 has seen a series of record-breaking audiences for the tournament, with each Canadian match bringing in higher audiences than the last. Overall, 15 million unique viewers have tuned in to watch Canada’s five games during the tournament and 18.8 million viewers have tuned in to watch some of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
Online, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 has accounted for six million total page views on TSN.ca during the month of June and 620,000 video streams on TSN.ca and TSN Go.
