Mobile TV fee dispute brews between Bell, Rogers

City has been dropped from Bell's Mobile TV service and Sportsnet access reduced as the two companies fail to agree on rates.

A carriage fee dispute between Rogers and Bell has led to reduced or removed access to Rogers’ City and Sportsnet brands from Bell’s Mobile TV service.

Bell Mobility customers received text messages Wednesday alerting them that City would no longer be available via the service and Sportsnet would only be available to Bell TV Sportsnet subscribers. As well, ATN DD News will replace ATN Masti.

A Bell spokesperson said negotiations between the companies came to a standstill. “We weren’t able to reach agreement on rates but remain open to offering the channels,” the spokesperson told Playback Daily.

Other channels currently offered on Bell Mobile TV include Corus Entertainment’s Treehouse and YTV, TVO Kids, CBC, BBC World News and various Bell Media channels.

The changes take effect Aug. 14, 2015.
