Blue Jays name new CEO

Mark Shapiro will take over from outgoing president and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre Paul Beeston at the end of the season.

After a weekend that included the creation of the baseball hat trick, and a sweep of the Detroit Tigers, the Toronto Blue Jays have announced the name of its next president and CEO.

Mark Shapiro will take over the role of president and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre from Paul Beeston, who is retiring at the end of the season.

Shapiro comes to the Jays from the Cleveland Indians, where he has worked for 24 seasons, spending the last five season as president. He will report directly to Rick Brace, president of Rogers Media in the new role.

Shapiro will not be commenting about his new role until the conclusion of this season, in order to minimize distractions during the Blue Jays’ playoff run, according to a release.
