Mobile games, eSports rule YouTube in 2015

According to its year-in-review, 20 of the top 100 channels in Canada were gaming-related.

The power of eSports continues to rise, bringing some of the biggest subscribers and views to YouTube in Canada for 2015.

According to Canadian year-in-review numbers for the site, 20 of the 100 top-subscribed channels were game-related.

In addition, the most-clicked ad on YouTube in Canada this year was for Super Bowl TV-and-online ad for mobile game, Clash of Clans: Revenge. The second most-watched ad was for the mobile game Boom Beach.

Also making a mark on the top 10 list for the year were ads for the greater good, P&G’s #LikeaGirl for Always was the #3 ad on the list in Canada, while #WhoWillYouHelp from the Government of Canada ranked at #9.

Canadians were watching YouTube content in record numbers this year, with numbers from Media Technology Monitor showing that 69% of Canadians watched YouTube content on a monthly basis.

YouTube viewership in Canada has gone up 21% since the fall of 2011, with over two-thirds of Canadians now reporting monthly usage on the site. Of those who reported watching YouTube content, one in three said they do so once a week.
