Postmedia’s chief transformation officer steps down

John Bode will take over Mary Anne Lavellee's CTO and CFO duties when she officially departs on October 6.

As of October 6, Postmedia’s Mary Anne Lavellee will be stepping down from her role as EVP, chief financial officer and chief transformation officer to pursue other projects.

Lavellee started at Postmedia in 2014 as VP of advertising sales operations. She was promoted to SVP of reader sales and operations in 2016 and joined the executive team in 2019 as EVP and COO, and then EVP, CFO and CTO as of November 2022.

“Since joining Postmedia in 2014, Mary Anne has brought her passion, strategic insights and unwavering commitment to our company, its vision and our people. She has been fundamental in helping to drive our business forward,” said Andrew MacLeod, president and CEO, Postmedia.

More specifically, Lavallee led initiatives focused on strategic and operational efficiencies, including key revenue areas of digital subscriptions and advertising. She is credited with helping Postmedia navigate through unprecedented times, including a global pandemic.

“The significant contributions Mary Anne has made to Postmedia’s transformation cannot be overstated,” added MacLeod. “We are all grateful for her commitment and personally, it has been a great privilege to work alongside Mary Anne throughout the years. We all wish her the very best as she pursues an opportunity that is very close to her heart.”

Postmedia board member (since 2018), John Bode, will be appointed EVP, CFO and CTO when Lavallee makes her departure in October.

Prior to Postmedia, Bode was COO at ReaderLink Distribution Services, CFO for Tribune Publishing and he currently serves as Director on The McClatchy Company’s Board of Directors. In the interim, he’ll be stepping down from Postmedia’s board and working with Lavallee during the transition.

“John is well-equipped to seamlessly move into the role and immediately continue our transformation momentum,” MacLeod said.
