Nearly four million Canadians tuned into CBC’s election coverage

On the digital side, the broadcaster registered three million combined visitors.

CBC was the top Canadian destination for news and results of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5, according to the broadcaster.

Numeris data shows that 3.8 million viewers tuned into CBC News’ live TV special America Votes. The special, led by chief correspondent Adrienne Arsenault on CBC and CBC News Network, garnered a combined average audience of 639,000 viewers.

CBC and CBC News Network ratings peaked at 10:12 p.m., with an average per-minute audience of 957,000, when correspondent Richard Madan reported from Philadelphia on the importance of Pennsylvania for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

CBC also had high viewership on the digital side. The broadcaster recorded more than three million combined unique visitors to Cbcnews.ca and the CBC News app. The Results Tracker section on its website attracted more than four million visits at 9 a.m. on Nov. 6. The live-stream America Votes special on the CBC News YouTube channel generated 3.6 million views, an increase of 500% compared to views of CBC News’ 2020 U.S. election coverage. And on CBC Gem, time spent grew 29% over the 2020 election coverage.

Overall, audiences in Canada consumed nearly five million hours of America Votes coverage across CBC platforms. Meanwhile, CBC Radio’s coverage of the election reached 840,000 listeners and garnered an average per-minute audience of 112,000.
