CBC to stream Walk Off The Earth memorial concert
Earlier this week, Burlington band Walk Off the Earth announced that it will play a free memorial concert in Burlington Jan. 13 to celebrate the life of its former keyboardist Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor. Now, CBC has stepped in to play its part; it will live-stream the concert nationwide on CBC Gem, its free, ad-supported streaming service. Following the live event on Sunday, the concert will be available to stream on demand on the app. The concert will also feature members from Arkells, the Barenaked Ladies, Scott Helman and others. There is no linear broadcast plan for the show. Taylor died Dec. 29 of natural causes. Walk Off The Earth owes much of its own rise to digital media; after years of playing together, the band shot to fame when it published an acoustic cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” on YouTube. To date, the video has been viewed more than 185 million times.
