Crave is ready for (Amazon) Prime time

The Canadian streamer will soon be available on Amazon Prime alongside Paramount+, Starz, MGM and others.

Bell Media has reached an agreement with Amazon to make Crave, the largest Canadian-owned streamer, available on Prime Video Channels. The exact date of the launch is TBD, but in the near future all of Crave’s programming — including HBO and Max Originals, the Harry Potter movies, and classic TV shows like Friends — will have a home on Prime’s user interface, alongside other Prime Video Channels like Paramount+, Starz, and MGM.

“Making Crave available to as many Canadians as possible, on the service and device of their choosing, is a top priority for Bell Media,” said Sean Cohan, President, Bell Media, in a statement.

According to a company spokesperson, Crave has approximately 3.1 million subscribers. Amazon Prime has more than double that in Canada, around 7.8 million. Although the two aren’t entirely comparable, since Amazon Prime Video comes free with an Amazon Prime membership. But the potential for Crave is still clear.

Details about pricing will be announced at launch, but Crave has stated that customers who subscribe to Crave Premium, it’s ad-free plan, through their Prime Video account will not see ads in Crave content. This week, Amazon began running ads on its platform.
