The latest AdEase report shows that McDonald’s was the most active radio advertiser during the week of Sept. 9 to 15.

With 5,894 combined occurrences, the QSR ranked first in Vancouver and Edmonton, third in Calgary, ninth in Ottawa and sixth in Montreal. The previous week, from Sept. 2 to 8, the restaurant chain also topped the overall radio ranking, with 6,816 total appearances.

Subway Restaurants came next with 5,870 combined occurrences. The advertiser, which was also the second most active last week, ranked fourth in Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, while coming in eighth in Edmonton, sixth in Ottawa, and fifth in Toronto.

Among the advertisers that boosted their buying over the previous week were Specsavers Canada (3,838 occurrences); Chevrolet dealers (2,332 occurrences); and Exxon Mobil (2,290 occurrences). Meanwhile, Tim Hortons (3,263); Spence Diamonds (2,795); and Canon Canada (2,746) were some of the marketers reporting declines in spend.

In terms of categories, the groups that moved up the most were eyewear and optical stores, which rose 203 positions to tenth in Vancouver; domestic trucks, which jumped 125 positions to tenth in Calgary; and import SUVs, which climbed 133 positions to third in Montreal. QSRs and furniture stores remain the top spending groups.
