The CBC brings home the online hardware

Leading the way with six golds, the pubcaster's digital properties took the most top prizes at last night's Canadian Online Publishing Awards.

Digital properties from CBC News (team pictured right) saw the most gold at last night’s fourth annual Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPAs), bringing home the top prize in six categories for the Green Division, which honours daily and weekly newspapers and broadcasters, including Best Online-Only Website.

The awards, which are produced by Masthead Online, also had prizes in the Red category (consumer, custom, religious and public association) and Blue category (business-to-business, professional association, farm and scholarly).

Also taking home top prizes in the Green division were the National Post with two golds, including Best Companion Website, and the Globe and Mail taking home two golds, including Best Digital Replica, as well as a silver. The Toronto Star (which led all nominees with 14 finalist nods) earned three silvers. Toronto Standard won a gold for Best Website Design and a silver, while Huffington Post Canada swept the Best Blog category for the division with a gold and a silver.

Taking the most top prizes in the Red consumer category was Rogers Media-owned Maclean’s with three golds, including one for Best News Coverage. Canadian Art took home two golds in the category and The Walrus Foundation took one, winning Best Companion Website. Best Overall Online-only Website went to RedNation Online: Your Canadian Soccer Magazine.

Other golds in the Red division included Sharpformen.com for Best Website Design, Apartment613 for Best Blog, Observerdocs in the Best Video/Multimedia category, BlogTO for Best Smartphone App, Wondereur for Best Tablet Edition, and Canadian Living for Best Data Visualization.
