Magazine circulation and sales down: report

Chatelaine has the top circulation and single-copy sales according to the latest report, which measures the period ending June 30.

The Alliance for Audited Media (AAM) has released measurement results for the first six months of the year, ended June 30. Measuring 60 titles, overall paid and verified circulation was down 7% for the first half of 2013 compared with the first half of 2012. Paid subscriptions were down 7.4% and single-copy sales were down 5.4% for the period.

Chatelaine had the top total paid and verified circulation with 539,913 copies for the first six months of the year, dropping 1.9% from the same period last year. Reader’s Digest Canada is in second with 458,233 (-17.1%), Maclean’s is in third with 313,007 (-2.6%), Canadian House & Home is in fourth with 232,893 (-6.2%) and Coup de Pouce is in fifth with 207,208 (0.9%).

Rogers Media’s Chatelaine also had the most single-copy sales for the period, with a jump of 10.4% for the period versus the same time last year to 100,230 from 90,750. Canadian House & Home comes in second, dropping 1.9% from the same period last year to 72,758 from 74,166. Third place goes to 7 Jours, which dropped 10.9% to 55,995 from 62,880 in 2012. Hello! Canada dropped 19.6% and landed in fourth, moving to 55,794 from 69,384 last year. LouLou landed in fifth, growing its single-copy sales to 44,054 this year from 43,698 for the same period last year.

Les Affaires had the largest boost in single-copy sales for the period versus the same time last year, jumping 125.6%. A+ had the second largest jump, with 54.5% and Reader’s Digest Canada came in third with a boost of 52.5%.

Canadian House & Home has the most digital replica sales for the six-month period, with 10,986. Reader’s Digest Canada is in second with 6,725, Maclean’s is third with 5,624, Chatelaine is fourth with 3,948 and MoneySense is fifth with 3,263.

Publications not filed with this AAM report include TC Media’s Canadian Living, Elle Canada and Style at Home. Results from those titles will be released in a later report on Aug. 20.
