Videotron, CBC and Gusto enter new partnerships

Platform news you may have missed, from podcast adaptations to reality TV integrations.

CBC and Acast adapt Alone: A Love Story for a larger, international audience

The CBC has partnered with podcast company, Acast, to adapt Alone: A Love Story (the award-winning memoir by Michelle Parise, who wrote, performed, and produced the series) for French and Spanish audiences, investing in homegrown content to expand reach to new audiences across Canada, the US, and Latin America, as well as internationally across Europe.

The adaptations were produced by Studio Ochenta, in consultation with Radio-Canada.

Seule: Une histoire d’amour and Sola: Una historia de amor officially launched on September 6. Acast’s ad network tech — which uses conversational targeting, first-party data targeting, listener demographics, location, and more — will monetize the adaptations through ads, sponsorships and integrated branded content partnerships in respective markets.

Videotron partners with NBCUniversal’s Hayu SVOD

Hayu, NBCUniversal’s reality TV subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming channel, is now available in Québec for Videotron subscribers.

More specifically, Videotron subscribers can access over 300 series and 9,000 episodes of reality TV — the majority of shows stream on the service the same day as the USA, including The Real Housewives, Below Deck and Million Dollar Listing TV franchises, along with reality sub-genres covering home and design, dating, fashion and true crime — directly through the Helix voice command on their Vidéotron remote.

“Hayu has had remarkable, rapid growth across Canada since first launching in Canada in 2018,” said Hendrik McDermott – MD, EMEA Networks, Hayu & International DTC, in a release. “We’re thrilled to now partner with Videotron, enabling reality TV fans in Québec and across Eastern Ontario greater access to top reality content.”

In its fifth year, Hayu is now available in over 40 countries (including Canada). As of June 30, 2023, there are 1,374,500 Videotron television customers.
