ZoomerMedia, a multi-platform media company, is growing.
With this week’s acquisition of Curiocity – one of Alberta’s leading digital media publishers with more than 250 million monthly views – ZoomerMedia is expanding its media empire in the West.
“Digital is how Millennials and Gen Z get their local info,” said Moses Znaimer, founder and CEO of ZoomerMedia in a statement. “With BlogTO, we own local in Toronto and the GTA; with Daily Hive we own local in Vancouver and the GVA; and now with both Hive and the much-admired Curiocity, we own local in Calgary and Edmonton.”
According to the bourgeoning media baron, with the inclusion of Curiocity, ZoomerMedia will now reach over 90% of English speakers in Canada. The acquisition continues the company’s media shopping spree. Last week, it announced the purchase of Owen Sound’s CJOS Bounce 92.3FM from Bell Media.
Omri Tintpulver, ZoomerMedia COO, explains to MiC that the addition of Curiocity to ZoomerMedia’s existing TV, radio , and print properties “is meant to unlock immense cross-platform opportunities… This acquisition allows us to win RFPs from agencies and clients looking for full spectrum buys. We anticipate that our business will grow when it comes to national agency and national direct campaigns wanting to engage local communities.”
“Local is Moses’ wheelhouse,” said Curiocity’s co-founders and siblings Mark Montanini and Lisa Briscoe. “His expertise, along with ZoomerMedia’s guidance and large and robust sales force, will enable Curiocity to scale to new heights that would otherwise be impossible to achieve independently.”
The price of the site was $5 million, and funded through loans from related parties (or their affiliates) of ZoomerMedia, being Moses Znaimer and Fairfax Financial.
