According to a recent MTM report, seven in 10 Canadian Anglophones tune into AM/FM radio. Nearly 20% of those listeners use a streaming service to catch their preferred radio station. Meanwhile, the number of Canadians listening to podcasts continues to rise.
It’s numbers like these that inspired Rogers to create Seekr – a “consolidated, customizable digital listening experience that allows people to listen to the audio content they want, when and how they want to consume it,” according to Rick Matthews, director of digital, social and apps, radio, Rogers Sports and Media.
While Rogers Sports and Media already maintains an ad-supported digital audio and podcast network, Seekr is meant to offer more distribution and reach. According to Rogers, there are multiplatform digital and audio sponsorship and integration opportunities – from co-branded contests to giveaways and prizing – available to advertisers within the Seekr platform.
Seekr includes access to Rogers Sports & Media’s 50-plus radio and digital audio brands, as well as podcasts from across Canada, including KiSS 92.5, 98.1 CHFI, JACK 96.9, The Big Story, Roz & Mocha, The Biggs & Barr Show, Island Crime, and more.
Seekr – which is available on Android and iOS – can also be personalized, says Matthews.
“Seekr’s ‘For You’ page is highly customizable. It allows users to get the content they want across radio, news, podcast and sports from across the country in a single feed, both live and on demand. Following and unfollowing stations and shows is easy,” he says. “And users can also enter any contests available to them in their region (versus just by station), as well as access exclusive Seekr-only contests.”
Matthews also adds that, because the app was built and is fully owned and operated by Rogers, it can be iterative based on the user data, feedback and client asks.
Rogers recently made other podcast news by signing on to be the exclusive Canadian ad sales partner of podcast network Wondery.
