As a sponsor of the Toronto Raptors, Bell launched an augmented reality app during “Goat Night,” a Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game to commemorate the 25th anniversary of renowned basketball player Vince Carter’s signature dunk.
The AR app is called Bell SkySlam and is available on the Raptors app or at BellSkySlam.ca. It recreates Carter in 3D as he performs one of his greatest plays and encourages users to share it on social media for a chance to win a signed City Edition jersey or tickets to an upcoming Raptors game.
“As a proud partner of the Toronto Raptors since 2013, Bell is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Vince Carter’s iconic dunk in a fun and innovative way. Bell SkySlam gives fans the ability to relive a historic Raptors moment through an immersive AR experience,” David Kennedy, VP of brand and sponsorship at Bell, tells MiC.
As part of Goat Night, fans attending the game were also able to experience a full visual takeover of Bell SkySlam, special video highlights, and interact with dunk-themed game presentation elements. In addition, Bell handed out 5,000 limited edition collectible T-shirts to the first people to enter the stadium.
Kennedy says the activation fits well with the Goat Night format, which was introduced this season and highlights the icons that have significantly impacted basketball, culture and community in Toronto.
“SkySlam redefines the fan experience as fans across Canada can recreate Vince Carter’s iconic dunk above any skyline,” he says. “It leverages technology to create more personalized and engaging interactions, building upon the positive experiences we’ve delivered in the past.”
