Cossette’s double win at the Marketing Awards

Creative agency Cossette took home two Best of Show awards at Thursday’s Marketing Awards gala, one for its OOH “Follow the Arches” campaign for McDonald’s Canada, and one for its “VS: All In” campaign for SickKids. The agency took home 13 Gold, 11 Silver and 7 Bronze as well. Two more big winners were Sid Lee, which took home five Gold, six Silver and five Bronze awards, and Rethink, with four Gold, four Silver and 12 Bronze. A total of 164 trophies were awarded, including 39 Gold, to 29 agencies.

Although the event mainly honoured creative and design agencies, some awards went to media agencies, including Mindshare, which took home a Bronze in Digital – Apps/Mobile for its work with Kimberly-Clark. Corus, Bell terminate proposed deal

A suggested multi-million dollar deal between Corus Entertainment and Bell Media has been terminated. As part of the deal, which was first announced in October 2017, Bell would have acquired French-language specialty channels Historia and Series+ from Corus for an estimated $200 million. The proposal was yet to be assessed by the CRTC when its termination was announced May 29.

Asics partners with Live Nation 

Canadian sportswear company Asics kicked off the summer with a multi-year partnership with entertainment company Live Nation. Announced this week, Asics will be Live Nation’s exclusive footwear sponsor for select venues and festivals across the U.S. and Canada. The partnership, which runs until 2020, includes activations, influencer collaborations, digital content, as well as online and retail promotions in the U.S. and Canada.

Edmonton radio station launches with new name 

Edmonton’s breaking news channel CHQT-AM launched under a new name this week. The radio station, now named Global News Radio 880 Edmonton, will feature a new broadcast format that emphasizes breaking and local news, traffic and weather. As part of the launch, the channel will also begin airing simulcasts of news program Global News Hour at 6.
