Star Academie reupped for another season

The return of the TVA reality series proves popular once again with its French-language audience.

After its first season following an eight-year hiatus, and with one week before the talent show’s finale, Quebecor’s Star Académie has been confirmed for another season on TVA, set to launch in winter 2022.

Star Académie started in 2003 and went off the air in 2012. Like the original, the reboot follows 15 singers training at Star Académie music school, but this time the format featured the top 100 participants who auditioned across Quebec and New Brunswick, narrowing the class down to a final 15 after the first performance two weeks later.

This seventh season garnered 10 sponsors, including Toyota and La Petite Bretonne – which sponsored the series during its 2012 season – alongside new partners Qualinet, Vidéotron, Re/Max Québec, SkipTheDishes, Nescafé, Perrier, JC Perrault, BMR, Cook-It and Adrien Gagnon. According to Quebecor, it is still too early to speak to new or returning sponsors or any format changes for the next season.

The success of the show, and the ongoing commitment is attributed to the popularity around series like La Voix (French version of The Voice), Denis Dubois, VP, original content for Quebecor Content, tells MiC, but also because of the format’s ability to showcase local talent and bridge generations of viewers across Québec and New Brunswick.

According to data from Numeris, the reality docu-series reaches 3.4 million people in Quebec each week, hitting 37.5% of adults 25-54 in the market. It airs on TVA and TVA+, and most recently Quebecor reports that Videotron Mobile and Helix TV subscribers have had access to exclusive live content, in addition to episodes of Le tout petit talk-show de Star Académie.
