Xaxis names global COO

WPP’s programmatic media and audience platform Xaxis announced this week that Nicolle Pangis has been promoted to global COO at the company. Prior to the announcement, which will make her responsible for business operations, human resources and strategic partnerships at the company, Pangis worked as global CRO.

Groupe Média TFO gets a brand refresh

There’s a new look on Groupe Média TFO this week aimed at making the channel appear more friendly and educational. Created in partnership with Troika, the new identity taps into what a release calls “icons of French culture,” including macarons and moustaches.

Cineplex to offer Blue Monday special

Cineplex has created a special Scene-point redemption offer to get Canadians into theatres next Monday for what is known as the most depressing day of the year. On Jan. 18 theatre-goers can redeem 500 Scene points for any movie ticket (general, 3D, Imax, VIP, etc.), a discount from the usual 1,000 to 2,000 points necessary for those seats. Tickets for the deal can be purchased only on the day in-theatre or online.

Marketplace host moves to CBC News

CBC News announced this week that Marketplace host Erica Johnson will be moving to its investigative news segment Go Public starting at the beginning of February. Taking the place of Johnson on Marketplace will be Charlsie Agro, David Common and Asha Tomlinson. New episodes of Marketplace air Friday nights at 8 p.m. on CBC.

CRTC asks Canadians about broadband internet

The CRTC wants to hear from Canadians about its use of digital services. As part of its investigation of the Canadian digital landscape the regulator has released a survey that Canadians have until Feb. 8 to complete. They are also asking any Canadians interested in commenting and speaking publicly about issues to attend a hearing in April, and to send in requests to do so by that date.
