Bull pulls in the ratings for Global

The new series starring NCIS alum Michael Weatherly boosted the 9 p.m. timeslot from the same week last year.

Global TV’s new fall primetime lineup posted a strong start on Tuesday night, topping the evening with the three most-watched shows, according to overnight numbers.

Leading the charge was new series Bull, which saw an average audience of two million viewers, according to overnight Numeris numbers from Corus Entertainment. The series, which is inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil BullMcGraw, stars NCIS alumni Michael Weatherly as Dr. Jason Bull, who owns a prolific trial consulting firm and specializes in learning what makes jurors, attorneys and witnesses tick.

Bull, which airs in the 9 p.m. timeslot, performed well across numerous major demographics, ranking as the number one series of the night for adults age 18 to 49, women 18 to 49, adults 25 to 54, women 25 to 54 and women 18 to 34. Bull grew the 9 p.m. timeslot year-over-year by 14%, with the biggest rise in the women age 18 to 49 range (34% from 2015). In September 2015, that slot was occupied by NCIS: New Orleans.

Long-running franchise NCIS landed in the second and third place slots for the night for the night, with the season premiere of the flagship NCIS earning 1.9 million viewers in the 8 p.m. slot and that of NCIS: New Orleans earning 1.3 million in the 10 p.m. slot.

Elsewhere, CTV saw the introduction of new drama This is Us in the 10 p.m. slot. The show boasted the most-watched trailer of the upfront season, racking up 50 million Facebook views in 11 days. CTV would not disclose overnight ratings for its premiere.
