Facebook and Instagram introduce tools to manage time spent
Instagram and Facebook have new tools that could possibly lead to users spending less time on their platforms. Both apps will launch dashboards showing how much time people have spent on each app via their devices during the past week, with a customizable daily time reminder that users can set a limit and adhere to. It will also add a “do not disturb” setting to limit certain notifications. The company says this is part of a mission to make sure “the time we all spend on our apps is time well spent.” The updates are rolling out gradually.
Daren Millard departing Sportsnet
Sportscaster Daren Millard is moving on from Sportsnet after 20 years on the air. Millard, who has served a number of roles during his tenure but most recently acted as an NHL broadcaster on Hockey Central, Wednesday Night Hockey and various hockey feature shows, said in a statement that his departure was voluntary and he is pursuing “a challenge beyond Sportsnet,” although he did not say what that new challenge would be.
New editors take the reins at Rogers Media titles
Following 75 layoffs in June, Rogers Media has named new editors-in-chief at three of its magazine titles. Sasha Emmons, former editor-in-chief of Today’s Parent has moved into the position of director of lifestyle content and will oversee the new editors, who include Carley Fortune (Chatelaine), Kim Shiffman (Today’s Parent) and Maureen Halushak (Flare). Both Fortune and Shiffman previously served as deputy editors of their respective publications, while Halushak worked as Flare‘s managing editor and, prior to that ran the health section and spent time as acting editor of Glow.
