OpenAI said to be building a social network
Reports indicate that OpenAI is in the early stages of building a social network. It is not known whether it will be a standalone app or be integrated into ChatGPT, last year’s most downloaded app globally. Meta may also enter the fray since it is said to be planning to add a social feed to a standalone app for its AI assistant.
If OpenAI does build a social app, it will give the company real-time data for training its AI models. AI uses content from X in results in training its Grok AI assistant and Meta trains the Llama AI app with user data from its platforms.
Japan issues cease and desist order against Google
After an 18-month investigation, Japan’s Fair Trade Commission has found Google to be monopolistic and has issued a cease and desist order. The commission is directing Google to stop preinstalling its search engines in Android smartphone and says that for nearly five years, Google has prevented other search services to function on specified Android smartphones.
Late last year, the U.S. Department of Justice also found that Google has used its market power to monopolize the online search market by making deals with companies like Apple and phone manufacturers to make it the default search engine on browsers and phones.
Additionally, the DOJ says Google has worked to suppress competition in the digital ad space by controlling the tools used to buy and sell ads as well as the platform where ads are placed. It alleges that Google controls up to 91% of the ad server market, limiting competition
and inflating prices. Because of that, Google could be forced to sell off its Chrome web browser.
Google is appealing the U.S. decision.
IAS adds pre-bid Video Exclusion Lists to TikTok
Integral Ad Science (IAS) has expanded Social Optimization for TikTok with the addition of pre-bid Video Exclusion Lists that give advertisers greater control over brand-suitable ad placements. With IAS’s AI-powered brand suitability technology, advertisers are able to exclude and classify unsuitable content on a frame-by- frame basis across all videos on TikTok via image, audio and text signals.
The IAS pre-bid Video Exclusion Lists are paired with TikTok’s inventory filter based on brand-specific needs, allowing advertisers to tailor individual brand suitability and contextual requirements for their TikTok ad placements. In addition, advertisers are now able to create custom suitability profiles to block content that does not align with their brand. Brands will be using IAS-powered brand safety and suitability, viewability and invalid traffic (IVT) detection across more than 75 markets and 30 languages.
