People Moves: Corus executive chair Heather Shaw to retire

Plus, global strategist at TikTok Sheraz Amin starts new job with Hearst Magazine.

Shaw will remain on the company’s board of directors

Corus Entertainment announced Thursday that Heather Shaw will retire from her position as executive chair as of May 31. Shaw will, however, remain on the company’s board of directors as a non-executive chair.

Shaw has served as executive chair of Corus since the company’s inception in September 1999. “Heather has been an important part of Corus’ history, helping to steward the company through significant milestones and an ever-changing industry,” says Troy Reeb, co-chief executive officer.

In addition to the Corus board, Shaw remains a director of several private companies including the Shaw Family Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded in 1970, and managing director of The Shawana Foundation, a Calgary-based philanthropic organization.

TikTok’s global head of product strategy changes companies

Sheraz Amin announced last week that he’s stepping away as global head of product strategy and operations core ads at TikTok. Amin will now join Hearst Magazines as its new senior vice president of product, according to LinkedIn.

Amin joined Bytedance, the China-based company that owns TikTok, in 2020. His first role with TikTok, client solutions team lead Canada, was based in Toronto, Ont. From there, he led the performance team in North America, based in New York, overseeing NA and LATAM operations and kickstarting the vertical solutions team to drive core ads and build the signals taskforce, according to LinkedIn.

His career began in 2010, and included stints with Saatchi & Saatchi, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Toronto Blue Jays name manager of partnership marketing

Lindsay Singer has been named the manager of partnership marketing for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Singer made the announcement last week via LinkedIn.

Previously, Singer was manager of brand activations for MKTG Sports & Entertainment Canada. Before that, she was the marketing campaign lead for brand marketing and sponsorship and events at Desjardins.

Having started her career in 2017, Singer has worked with the Blue Jays in 2019 and has experience with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnerships (MLSE) in 2020.
